Frequently Asked Questions

These products use a product called Benzyl Nicotinate which increases the skin cell’s microcircula-
tion and oxygenation. This in turn causes a “reddening” or “hot” feeling to the skin while producing
deep, dark tanning results. This product is recommended for advanced tanners only.

The skin on your face is much more sensitive and delicate than the rest of your body. Products’
fragrance is the most common reason for breakouts on the face. This is why we suggest using a
fragrance free facial product while tanning. You can still develop color while taking care of your skin.

Do not tan a fresh tattoo until the skin has fully healed. Then make sure to cover the area or use a
product with an SPF to prevent the tattoo from fading due to exposure to UV light. Tattoo balm
sticks or lip balms that contain at least an SPF15 will work best.

This is called “tinea veriscolor”. It is a yeast type of skin fungus present on normal ski, similar to
dandruff. This is very common and harmless. The “white patches” usually are not noticeable until
you start tanning because they do not tan. An over-the-counter treatment may be used, however, it
is always best to consult your dermatologist.

There are 5 different levels to DHA. If a product contains too much DHA or a low quality DHA then
that unnatural “orange” color can develop. Designer Skin, Australian Gold, California Tan, and
Swedish Beauty contain the purest quality of DHA in order to deliver a natural bronzed look. By
combing a high quality DHA with the perfect amount of bronzing agents, you will ensure a natural
 tan without streaking or staining.

A tanning lotion that gives a natural tint to the skin without the use of DHA.
 What is DHA?
Dihydroxyacetone is derived from sugar cane. It is a bronzer that develops on the skin within 4 to 6
hours after UV exposure. This is the same browning process that occurs in apples or bananas when
 exposed to air.

Bronzers are natural proteins in the skin that develop once exposed to UV light. They usually take

4 to 6 hours to develop fully after initial exposure. Caramel, Walnut Extract and DHA are sunless
tanning agents that provide that added immediate bronze color. For best results, wait at least 4
hours after tanning to shower. Please note it is best to avoid heavy sweating, saunas, swimming
or hot showers during this time period.

Ask questions! You must first ask if they are happy with their current tanning results and what are
they trying to achieve. Then explain the benefits of the different types lotion; bronzer, tingle,
coolant, etc. Then suggest several products for them based upon their likes and dislikes while
explaining the benefits and features for each product.

Explain that mineral oil, which is contained in these products, will damage the acrylic and are

prohibited in your salon for that reason. They are not designed to be used with indoor tanning
equipment. These over-the-products do not provide the essential vitamins and nutrients that your
 skin needs to tan.

During the indoor tanning process UV exposure can dry out the skin. Dry skin reflects the UV light
while moist skin absorbs it. Thus, You need moisture in your skin to tan, without it you will not
achieve your darkest results. By using an indoor tanning lotion you will get a darker, deeper tan
while hydrating your skin for a longer lasting results. Also, Designer Skin, Australian Gold ,

California Tan and Swedish Beauty products take it one step further and contain many essential skin
care ingredients to promote healthy skin.

Products purchased over-the-counter do not have the high quality ingredients like those found in the Designer Skin, Australian Gold, California Tan or Swedish Beauty products. These products contained vital nutrients and moisturizers to get the best tan possible while taking care of your skin.
